First Week of a New Year Do You Continue To Persevere

Here we are, one week down of the New Year, we made it! Only 51 more to go, sounds like a lot but we know how fast it goes. Time, time goes way to fast and for some tomorrow doesn’t come. Therefore, as the ol’ cliche goes, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today”. Tackle those tasks, set some goals and put one foot in front of the other. That’s how you get things done.

Our character Do’er Duck shares with our children and youth the importance to never giving up, not to quit and keep on trying. For example:

  • Do’er Duck models determination in action. Do’er duck doesn’t give up when things get tough. When children know that this character is ‘doing’, ‘practicing, trying again, and again they learn that perseverance means sticking with something until you succeed.

  • Do’er Duck teaches that mistakes are part of learning, one might stumble, make a mess or fail the first time, but this is how we learn from our mistakes. Perseverance is about learning from our mistakes, not avoiding them.

Our blog post on Teaching Perseverance has more tips and some free print outs to share with your children and encourage them to never give up. This blog post shares making a paper bag puppet of Do’er Duck. Miss Joni recently visited Fort Campbell and shared this activity and lessons with the children there. Teaching our children to be resilient is helpful and supports better coping skills and emotional growth. Determination is another word to use with our children to help them understand the meaning of perseverance.

Remember that you are a role model to your child and they want to be like you, so do your best to not give up, to try again and stay determined and resilient!

We’re having fun some AI stuff, they bring the characters to life! Here we are, just having a family picnic. Great place to begin teaching children about perseverance!

Perseverance is especially important in the New Year because it helps turn fresh hopes and resolutions into real, lasting change. As the excitement of a “new beginning” fades, perseverance is what keeps us moving each and every day!

Here’s why it matters so much at the start of a new year:

  • Resolutions take time: Whether it’s learning a new skill, improving behavior, or building healthy habits, progress doesn’t happen overnight. Perseverance helps us even in the struggles or fight to get things done!

  • Challenges are inevitable: A new year brings new opportunities but also obstacles. Perseverance teaches us to keep going despite setbacks, mistakes, or disappointments. Challenges are a part of life it seems, but when you persevere, your accomplishments will gleam!

  • Builds confidence and resilience: Each time we push through difficulty, we grow stronger. This is especially important for children, as perseverance helps them believe in their ability to overcome challenges, to NEVER Give up and the feeling of accomplishment should be shared when your child finishes something that made them scared!

  • Encourages growth over perfection: The New Year isn’t about getting everything right it’s about trying again. Perseverance reminds

encourages growth over perfection, one step, one day, one task at a time.It helps shape strong character that lasts far beyond January.

We hope you’ll share Do’er Duck with your children, that you will be a role model of perseverance and that the New Year treats you well!
