Children’s Books on Character

Are you struggling with building good character in your children? As an educator and member of the Reading Team in an elementary school I learned quite a bit. My biggest take away when teaching children to read, write and communicate is to find a topic that they find interesting. Or, characters that spark their imagination! Characters of Character has now published many books to do just that and we hope you’ll introduce us to your own children or grandchildren, students, family and friends. Together WE will make a difference in the life of a child.

As you can see, we have lots of books and activities to engage our children and youth in conversations to learn what it means to have good character. Once a child is familiar with the character, any of the Composition notebooks are fun for them to take with them, write about the trait in the notebook, write a letter to the character, practice spelling words, keep notes and just be reminded of the character trait. Our Travel Pal blog is also a great resource, think Flat Stanley! Print out the character, I do on a card stock and then actually laminate them. Have doubles, keep one with you at all times to pop in and remind your child what the trait is and how the character would act or react in any given situation.

Using our imagination is a powerful tool, get lost in the character but remember the trait. If your child is struggling to finish their vegetables on their plate, remind them: “Healthy Hippo loves vegetables, do you think that Healthy Hippo has a favorite? What is yours?” Children relate the the character and you relate to the trait, join them together to build and reinforce this trait in your own children!

Did you know that with a SASE when your child writes a letter to their favorite character, the character will write back! Let’s have some fun with the Travel Pals and become Pen Pals this Summer! This activity builds communication skills, fine motor, literacy and of course character! Let’s make a difference in the life of a child, together!
