Tips for Showing Kindness

Can you believe that its the last few weeks of 2023? What a wonderful year Characters of Character has had with making a difference in the life of a child, and believe me, we can’t do it alone. YOU make a difference. However, the year is not over just yet and we wanted to share some tips that you can do to show kindness in your home or community below. The Holidays are not always easy for many people. Some may have lost a loved one and find it difficult to cope. Some may have lost jobs and find it difficult to survive. Some may feel lonely, lost or are struggling with life. Some may feel unappreciated. The Holidays aren’t always jolly for some. By showing kindness to others, you’re making a difference in how a person feels, even if it’s a stranger you bring kindness to, that’s okay. When was the last time you thought about community workers and members of your own community? Or a child who may be ill in the hospital? We’re all in this together and hopefully not only during the Holiday Season, but all through the year. The world needs kindness. If you have followed us you will know that teaching our children vital core values is our passion, and it’s my purpose. Thank YOU for making our world better!

We leave you some ideas to spread kindness and continue to make the world a better place:

  • Share a sincere smile

  • Take baked goods to your local fire or police station to thank them for working tirelessly to keep our community safe.

  • Help out with chores around the house.

  • Bring treats like donuts or bagels to the office to share with coworkers.

  • Donate to a food bank.

  • Donate to a local pet shelter.

  • Donate to a charity your heart dances for.

  • Host a food drive or a coat drive to donate to a local shelter in need.

  • Send letters or care packages to soldiers defending our country.

  • Bring toys to a local hospital for the children to enjoy.

  • Make something handmade to share with your local cashiers.

  • Don’t forget about your postman or postwoman or the garbage collector!

  • Volunteer at a local shelter or charity organization.

  • Teach your children the gift of giving.

  • Clean out a closet to donate to a shelter.

  • Bring your child’s teacher a nice surprise, cup of coffee, chocolate, new markers, anything really they would love!

  • Be kind to everyone, you don’t know their story, nor should you, kindness should be a way of life.

  • Visit an adult retirement community to spend time with the elderly, make a craft, sing some songs or play games.

  • Send out letters to loved ones or just a thinking of you note. This does wonders!

I’ll leave you with one more thought, sometimes all we need to do is lend an ear, or, a shoulder to lean on. If and when you can do more, please do it. As the world continues to turn, continues to change and challenge some of us, one thing should remain, you guessed it, KINDNESS.

TELL me and I forget, TEACH me and I remember, INVOLVE me and I learn. Benjamin Franklin
