October 10th is Mental Health Day

10/4/2019

World Mental Health Day is October 10th. Today it seems that more and more of us have become aware of our own mental health. When you stop to think about this for a moment, how are taking care of yourself, your own mental health. We all need self care, it's not selfish, it's not shallow and as the saying goes: "If mama ain't happy, nobody is happy". I thought this was awful when I first heard this phrase, until now! There is truth to this! In my opinion of course. We need to take care of who we are, physically, mentally and spiritually. Think about how you take care of who you are? Are you aware when you're stressed, lacking energy, tired, etc?

This is how I am able to take care of myself:

1. I am aware when I feel stressed, tired, short tempered, etc.
2. I draw
3. I paint with my new favorite medium, watercolors
4. I journal
5. I take a walk
6. I listen to  Podcasts
7. I clean and rearrange furniture
8. I sometimes bake
9. I talk with friends
10. I listen to music

Mindset Matters

I have found that becoming aware of my own mindset, that starting my day in gratitude is beneficial. This past summer I was gifted the opportunity to travel to Louisiana with a dear friend on an Art Retreat. At the age of 60, I was turned on to writing in a Journal!  This workshop taught me so much. One of the first questions out of the box in the group was, "What brings you here" and my response was, "I want to find Joni again". Married for 38 years, raised three amazing adults, my husband travels for work which is new to us, and I want to be the best I can be to be a blessing to others. So, I have changed my mindset to positive vibes only, I'm learning how to stay in that positive vibe.
