Gratitude Day #22 has taught me a lot about what I can do. I reflect on the person I was just a few years ago and notice such tremendous growth in myself. Just last night I said to my husband that I'm not enjoying the journey because I want to be at my destination. If you stop to think about that, your destination is always changing. For me, first it was to finish school, get married, have children and become a teacher, a nurse or a nun. Those were my goals as a young girl. I've accomplished them all beside becoming a nun! Truth be told, when I shared that with my dad he was disappointed because he thought he would never have grandchildren. Plus, a nun can't physically have a family and so it was just an illusion that I had, but, it was a nice one.
I'm not a little girl anymore and my journey continues, while those destinations have been accomplished, my new journey has even more desires. While I have acquired some great accomplishments in my life, my family being the greatest as our three adult children are truly amazing in their own ways, all entrepreneurs and all kind, caring and gifted. Joey, Josh and Jennifer are who started my journey. Today's journey is to provide a firm foundation for children to establish strong civic values. That is what the Characters of Character provide. My ideas and thoughts are ever growing with ways to get these messages and characters into the hearts of our children who are the future.
My journey to do this has taught me quite a bit. At first thought, I had the illusion of the simplicity of a nonprofit organization. Surprise! It was just an illusion! There is quite a bit of work that goes into forming an organization, running one, preparing one for events, marketing, being present on social media, walking through open doors, networking, writing grants, meeting people first hand, creating content, graphic designs, book work, publishing books, creating activities and the list goes on and on and on. This is my journey, while the destination is to have our own space, a community center of sorts to invite others in and engage them in these important character messages to empower our youth and enhance their character while modeling what character is, what it looks like, what it feels like and what it does for oneself and for others is quite the journey.
If I had to choose which character I am most like, I'd choose Do'er Duck as I never give up and I continue to persevere. My journey has taught me that prayers are answered and that wishes and dreams do come true. My journey has made incredible accomplishments not only for myself, but, for others. My journey is making a difference in the life of a child. My journey has brought me face to face with amazing people, places and lessons which I embraced. My journey has taught me growth, has taught me to be a better listener, to never stop doing what you love to do. My journey is unfolding each and every day, and I myself, remind myself that I need to enjoy the journey, you'll reach your final destination right on time. It's my journey. But know this, one must be aware of their journey, one must be grateful for the opportunity to journey, one must take the first step to their own journey. One must believe in their own self and be willing to learn and grow and share their lessons to encourage others. You see, we are all on a journey, it's how we walk it, who we take with us and how much passion we have to get their. Enjoy the journey. My journey for this gratitude blog ends here as I prepare to be with family during this season of gratitude.
P.S. I sincerely hope that you take time to write down at least one thing that you are grateful for each day this month, and, that you notice the impact it has on your mindset. Stay tuned for future posts as I will share some ways to involve your children in these simple tasks, too!
