Using imagination helps one to learn, to understand and to engage in various activities. At least this is true for me! I'm a visual hands on learner. I need to see it, touch it and feel it from the outside to the inside. This is how I teach the Characters of Character as well. Our Super Hero book teaches the nine character traits with a twist to become a Super Hero. The children can color in the book, read about the trait and I added an extra activity by making our own Super Hero Masks! What you can do is teach a different character trait each week. I suggest weekly so that your child truly internalizes the trait and becomes aware of it within themself and in others. Beware! They will point out if you are not using good manners like Manners Monkey or being responsible like Responsible Rabbit! You've been warned! I had a mom phone me to tell me that when she lost her car keys all she heard was her daughter saying, "never give up mom" like Do'er Duck says! When you're in a panic looking for your car keys, from the mouth of babes comes a breath of fresh air. When you visit each of the characters page on the website, there are more ideas on how to teach their specific trait. My suggestions are for all of them to do the following: 1. Be encouraging as often as you can 2. Be a role model, your child is watching you, listening to you and wants to be like you 3. Color the character holding the pencil on each page, discuss the trait, use as a sticker chart or as a journal cover, keep it as a visual reminder 4. If you're able to, purchase the character painting kit to bring in art to their imagination and creative minds, display it with great pride as they will be very proud of their art work 5. Communicate with your child, ask them questions, let them ask you questions and be sure to be very clear as to what you expect from them regards to this character trait 6. Make a chart for your child to be reminded to be of good character, use pictures or words 7. Read with your child, be creative with your child and be in tune to how they are learning from you, we all learn in our own way, remember, I said that I myself am a visual hands on type of learner 8. Enjoy your child, they will grow very quickly and it's important to teach them how to make good choices 9. Give your child the tools to be of good character 10. Do your best, your child is learning from your character, make good choices
