The Program

The program’s success lies in its simplicity. The children become very attached to the characters, and involved in what each one represents. The core of the program consists of nine 1" binders, each representing a particular characater and its trait.A story for each character is in the binder, both in english and spanish along with coloring pages, crossword puzzle, wordsearch, bulletin board ideas, reproducible certificates, awards and a variety of journal pages to share with the students. This program works well on its own or it can be implemented to the character program you may already have in place.
The photo below is one of the bulletin board displays done at Woodview. The characters were displayed down every hallway, either in a display case as seen above or on posters and bulletin boards. .The climate and culture improved as the year went on. The end of the year assembly proved to have a positive impact on both the students and staff as seen below.

For the end of the year assembly, each grade level worked on their favorite characater and trait. Together they found the good character within themselves which they learned this year and then shared it with the school and community. Some presented short skits, while others made banners, puppets or read a short story. Not only was this a fun learning experience, but something that all students had to internalize and share. Hopefully this is something they will remember for years to come.
